Numeracy ~ MONEY
Provocation:
A story on ‘Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday’ by
Judith Viorst was played to them on the computer using speakers and also
reinforcing their listening skills. Students then reflected on the story by sharing
their ideas on needs and wants.
Students
were then asked to pick one need and want and whether it would be possible to
satisfy it with the clothes or toys they have. They came up with the need for
money. We also discussed how money is different in different parts of the world
yet has the power to purchase. Discussions lead to various currencies used
across the globe.
