Tuning in
The
first line of inquiry:
Different genres
of literature
Students
brought their favourite book from home that they have read and shared it with
the class giving a reason why they like that book.
REFLECTION
After
the library visit and bringing their favourite book from home, students were
ready to reflect on by making a list of genres. They came up with many genres
like ~
Fairy
tale, Adventure, mystery, science fiction, mythology, historical fiction,
folktale, fables, Horror, Comedy, Science fiction, Epics, Poetry, Drama and
even Romance.
Bundling Activity
Students
were given a list of random words related to the unit. They were then divided
into four groups to bundle/sort the words to classify ideas that seem to belong
together and validate their choices.
Students enjoyed this activity
thoroughly. They not only displayed team spirit but also learned new words and
were able to apply them while doing this activity.
The Central Idea!!
Solving the puzzle
CENTRAL IDEA
People can enrich their minds through literature.
As a group work, students solved this puzzle very quickly. All
of them came up with the right phrasing of the central idea. Wow!!
They are very excited about our new unit of inquiry and are so looking
forward to enrich their minds with literature. Second UNIT OF INQUIRY
TD Theme
How we express ourselves
An enquiry into the ways in which
we discover and express ideas, feelings,
nature, culture, beliefs and values; the way in which we reflect on, extend and
enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.
Students worked on the strands of
this TD Theme by discussing it in groups and presenting their understanding and
the big ideas to the class. They did a superb job and amazed me with their
ideas & skills.
Class Museum
At the end of our first Unit Of Inquiry;
“WHO WE ARE”…students wrapped up their learning by coming to a conclusion that “people
are more alike than different”.
A
Class Museum was set-up, where
they collected information and artefacts representing themselves and another
person/s of their choice. The objective was to understand that people around
the world are physically, socially and emotionally same despite all their
differences and how their individual strengths and weaknesses make them unique.
Their presentation was focussed on:
· the physical, social and emotional
characteristics
that humans have
· How these characteristics are
different from region to region but still have certain similarities
· There was a comparison of at least two
individuals from different regions in order to show how a certain strength or
weakness makes an individual unique
Using THINKING Hats, they were able
to reflect on their learning –
CREATIVITY hat
FACT hat
THINKING hat
BAD POINTS hat
FEELINGS hat
GOODPOINTS hat
