Provocation to the first line of inquiry ~
Provocation to the first
line of inquiry ~
What are the basic needs
and how are they met.
Students
were given a picture of a dog that looks like it needs a home. Students were
asked if they decide to take this dog home, what would the pet need? Students came
up with its basic needs—a warm home, love and attention, food, water,
walks each day or a litter box. We also distinguished between the pet’s needs
and extra things people may want for the pet such as toys and sweaters.
Each child was given a hand
puppet and they were asked to focus on their basic needs. Grouping
the responses into categories with the general headings of food, water, shelter,
clothing, education and healthcare. Assigning
each category a color by colouring a big dot in the column; food, water,
shelter (a warm home), clothes, education and healthcare. Students started to
colour in big dots showing that they have all their needs met today.
HAPPY faces of students in
the air to celebrate that their whole community
has all their basic needs.
